The Last-Minute Mummy

I have a confession: I typically plan my Halloween costume either the day of, or a couple of hours before show time. EEEEK! I know, so bad!

But can we just all agree that Halloween kind of just snuck up on us this year? Like what happened to 4th of July, weren’t we JUST in Summer? If you’re anything like this or you’ve never really been too keen on creating an elaborate costume, we totally get it. Don’t stress Mama, we got you, girl!

It’s time to take a deep dive into your wardrobe department and utilize what you got in there! Dust off those platform boots and steal your husband’s suit jacket because we’ve created 4 Halloween costumes that every last-minute witch is guaranteed to have in her broom closet. Let’s get to it…

1. Melanie Daniels- The Birds

What you need:

  • a coordinating suit dress and matching jacket (Think formal office attire)
  • 3 fake birds (Sold at Michael’s craft store for $5 or less)
  • your favorite black heels (Extra points for scuffs)
  • a small black handbag
  • a red eyeliner or matte red lipstick

Outfit: Take one of your fake birds and either pin or hot glue a clip to the back of the bird so it’s easier to secure to the front of your jacket. Sheer pantyhose are optional, it’s basically whatever you feel most comfortable in. Don’t forget your black pumps and purse!

Hair: You are gonna do some major teasing here so second day hair will most likely work best to achieve this retro bird’s nest style. Grab your dry shampoo for added texture and start twisting your hair on top of your head. You can pull out a few shorter, face-framing pieces and lightly curl them to really finish your naturally tousled look. Lastly, take your last two evil birds and pin one closer to your forehead with the beak down. Then the other towards the back of your head with the beak pointing up.
2. Phyllis Lapin-Vance- The Office
What you need:
  • lacy collar blouse
  • cheesy, super cozy pullover sweatshirt (bonus points if you have kitties on the front)
  • an obscene, patterned midi skirt
  • crew socks
  • white sneakers
  • short string of pearls and your favorite coffee mug

Outfit: Bold colors mixed with anything that has bold and fun prints screams our girl, Phyllis. She’s known for her funky layering, so this is the type of costume that honestly has specific structure to it. Have fun with you and remember to go for funky grandma in the office. And don’t be too shy about showing off those “jugs”.

Hair: Grab some extra small hot rollers and tease it all around. Don’t forget your Aquanet!

Makeup: Have fun with a warmer toned blush and a cranberry shade lip color. Keep your eyes natural.

3. Frankenstein

What you need:

  • steal your man’s black suit jacket or a black blazer
  • high-waist black jeans or black leather leggings
  • black T-shirt
  • black booties
  • black lipstick
  • black eyeshadow
  • black eyeliner
  • ear plugs (color them black with a sharpie)

4. TikTok Twin Mom- Maia Knight

What you need:

You are literally going to steal everything out of your husband’s or brother’s closet for this look. Seriously, best costume ever… In my opinion.

  • men’s sweatshirt (the bigger, the better)
  • men’s sweats
  • Patagonia, Carhartt, whatever work jacket they have
  • Hunter ankle boots
  • Bass Pro Shops hat
  • Two babies
  • White Claw an (preferably full and ready to go)

Ready! Set! Go!

There you have it!  Pull off any of these 4 Halloween costumes and no one ever needs to know you planned it last minute. Happy Halloween Mama!
