Last Saturday my husband and I experienced for the first time the Sunburst Railbikes. I was looking forward to enjoying the raibikes, but also finally getting some time to spend with my husband.

Confession Time

I have a confession to make. It has been a LONG time since my husband and I have gone on a date. Between the cost of childcare and the cost of eating out, it has been a VERY long time. So long, in fact, that I actually can’t remember our last date.

So, when I was offered this opportunity to spend three glorious  uninterrupted hours with my husband cruising around on a Sunburst Railbike, I couldn’t wait to start pedaling. To be honest, unlike my husband, I am not much of a cyclist. It seemed so much easier when I was a kid riding in my neighborhood. It never felt like work. I remember riding through the streets with the wind in my hair, not a care in the world.

To Pedal Or Not To Pedal

So imagine my surprise when we showed up at the picturesque historic Santa Paula Train Depot and I had the option to pedal or not to pedal! Due to the Sunburst Railbike’s electric assist motor, you can sit back and relax or you can pedal for all or any of the seventeen mile journey.

You will never guess what I chose! I chose to pedal. My husband, the cyclist in the family, chose to sit back and let the bike do all the work. Me, the non-biker, decided that I was going to pedal the entire time!

We spent seventeen beautiful miles riding on railroad tracks on our railbike through the citrus and avocado groves of Ventura County. We stopped at Prancer’s Farm for fresh berries, jerky and lots of time with sheep, goats, horses and even a tortoise!

As we sat side by side on our Sunburst Railbike, we talked about our life, our family and our shared goals. It was an uninterrupted time that we rarely get. We focused on each other. We laughed, we vented and we pedaled (or at least I did!). It is a wonderful way to spend quality time together while engaging in a memorable outdoor adventure!
