We are proud to partner with Organic Valley to share with Ventura County moms the difference in milk produced by cows who are happy and well cared for.

In my household, we drink a lot of milk!  My middle son has a bowl of cereal almost every morning and usually as an afternoon snack.  My other two often enjoy a cold glass of milk with meals.  We also use milk in many of our go to recipes, which include pancakes, muffins, and macaroni and cheese.

With so much milk consumption in our house, several gallons can always be found in our refrigerator. So, it is important to me as a mom to be intentional about what milk product I offer my children on a daily basis. My family has been enjoying and using Organic Valley milk for a while now.  There is so much my family loves about this delicious organic milk, and I feel great about giving it to my family for several reasons.

Happy Cows Make Better Milk

In California, with so many beautiful days, my family spends the majority of our time outside.  We spend almost every Friday at the beach and enjoy great local parks.  It is important to me that my family spends time outside. So, I was happy when I learned that Organic Valley cows spend more time outside than other cows! Their cows are outside on pasture 50 percent more than the USDA organic standard leading to happier, healthier cows and better milk. There are many benefits to cows who spend time outside.

Since the cows spend more time outside, they have more grass in their diet than organic standards require.  The cows also have the benefit of grazing, roaming and playing on pasture. My kids are happiest when outside playing and just being kids. And Organic Valley cows live the way cows should, outside and just being cows.

What Makes Organic Valley Different

Organic Valley

Organic Valley isn’t like most companies. As a cooperative made up of small family farms, Organic Valley herds are kept purposefully small. It is not uncommon for the cows to have their own name and the family farmers know the personalities of each cow!

Want to know something really exciting? These family farmers can be found here in California!  That’s right, Organic Valley farmer-owners can be found throughout California, which makes me even more proud to support and use Organic Valley milk!

No-Ice-Cream-Needed Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

Organic ValleyMy family enjoys making milkshakes during the summer.  We have used this recipe from Organic Valley on many hot, summer days. This luscious and creamy strawberry milkshake is sweetened with just frozen strawberries and strawberry jam (use a naturally sweetened jam if you want to avoid processed sugar). The milkshake gets creaminess from whole milk and a touch of heavy cream. It’s an easy summertime treat that the whole family will love!

Also try their vanilla and chocolate milkshake recipes! (This recipe was created by Nicki Sizemore and originally appeared on OrganicValley.com).
