Over 75% of Americans are addicted to and eat excessive amounts of sugar. We eat an absorbent amount of sugar to the tune of 180 pounds per person. Recognizing that we are addicted gives us a head start in changing from bad eating habits to good ones. But what does that look like?

Let’s Make a Change

What does it mean to change your bad eating habits to good ones? It means to give up the soda, the coffee, the candy, and the excessive fake fruits. It means to cut the pasta and the bread down to a cheat day. A well balanced diet is a happy human no matter what the age. Our bodies trust us to feed it the best ingredients we can.

So what does that mean for people that are sick? autoimmune disease? The people that have cancer? Well, like me (cancer patient) I have had to learn to cut out starch, sugar and anything that was going to be a hindrance to my healing and cancer treatment.

Start Slow

How do you curb your cravings for sugar and starch? You can do what I did and start by cutting back making better choices throughout the day. The more you cut the more you get used to not having it.  I also turned to water to supplement my hunger cravings. As I got my routine down I got used to not having it.

Before I knew it I was able to cut out these unhealthy options.  Did I feel different yes but the more I learned the limits of my body and trusted it to do what I wanted it to do, it got easier. I eat lean meats and lots of fresh veggies and fruit. I eat anywhere from 3 oranges to 2 kiwis and I experienced dragon fruit for the first time.  And cold pressed juices all make my body feel its best.

I have completely cut out coffee and soda unless its 1 time a month. I cut out candy gummies and processed added sugars. I read labels and look for things that are bad for me on the labels. I mostly make meals with veggies, quinoa or couscous. They make up 75 percent of my diet and the other is salads and fruit.

Eating what’s good for you jump starts the day and fuels your body for the next. If you listen to what your body is telling you, you can figure out by the signals your body is giving you what it wants. Salty foods and sweet foods does not always mean you want exactly that. It means you are lacking something in your diet that makes you crave salt or sugar.

Feed Your Body

Finding out what your body needs by feeding it healthy foods instead of indulging in processed sugars will give your body the very best. Your body will adjust and you won’t even want the bad foods. Adjust your mind to follow your body and everything else will fall into place.
