As the calendar flips to a new year, my family has a tradition that helps us reflect on our goals, dreams, and desires for the months ahead—creating vision boards. It’s a ritual that has become a cherished part of our holiday celebrations, one that binds us together while fueling our individual aspirations.
Vision Boards
The process begins by gathering old magazines, scissors, glue, and large poster boards. We spread out at the dining table, letting the magazines open to their colorful pages. Each of us flips through, searching for images, words, and phrases that resonate with our intentions for the year. There are no rules about what should or shouldn’t be included—whether it’s a picture of a dream vacation, a quote that inspires, or an image representing a personal goal, it all finds a place on the board.
Hopes and Goals
There’s something magical about taking the time to sit down and physically create a visual representation of our hopes. As we clip out the images, conversations naturally begin to flow. We talk about what we want to achieve, how we want to grow, and what we are excited to experience. It’s not just about setting resolutions but about shaping our vision for the future. The act of curating images allows us to articulate our dreams in a tangible form, and it’s fascinating to see how different each person’s vision board looks—some boards are filled with adventure, others with tranquility, and some with professional or personal growth.
Ready for a New Year
Once our boards are completed, we hang them in our bedrooms or shared spaces as a daily reminder of what we’re working toward. Over the course of the year, they become a source of motivation, helping us stay focused and inspired.
Creating vision boards with my family has become a tradition I truly cherish. It’s a wonderful way to reflect, bond, and start the new year with clarity and excitement for all that’s to come.
