Libraries are fundamental to our communities! Even though technology keeps getting better and many people use tech-friendly ways to read, libraries still offer an abundance of great resources and a safe place for our community and readers.

Benefits of the Library

Libraries are extremely important and keep the doors open to equal educational resources for the community and families of all backgrounds. They support educational opportunities and help many people learn and study. Many libraries offer many other resources besides books. From audiobooks and movies, workshops, group activities such as book clubs, homework help, digital resources, story time, computer access and more.

If you are Ventura County the access to a library card can bring along wonderful perks and open a world of wonder for yourself and your young readers. We love using our library card and visiting our local library every month to see all the great new titles and resources available. But there are so many reasons why you should visit your local Ventura County library and get you and your kids a library card.

5 Ventura County Library Card Perks

1. Promoting Independence and Responsibility

If you are a parent, allowing your kids to get their own library card will not only help them get excited about checking out books and other resources but will also give them a sense of independence and responsibility.  Now they have to care for the books they are taking home and their card. The whole process can be very exciting for them; from finding a book, scanning it at checkout or having to speak to a librarian. If they are old enough, they can help set reminders on when the books are due and help you return them.

2. Park Passes!

You can get a free park pass for vehicle use at any of the 200+ participating
state parks in California operated by State Parks. This is a great way to have individuals
and families get out in nature without economic barriers.

3. Computer Kits

This is an amazing way to get everyone connected. Adults 18 and over can check out a computer kit for 4 weeks and can renew automatically up to 2 times if the computer kit is not needed. The kit includes a Chromebook, hotspot, USB charging cable, bag, mouse and headset.

4. Homework Help

Tutoring and e-learning that benefits all ages and levels can be easily accessible through the Ventura County libraries. Assistance is available 24/7 in both English and Spanish along with many other research tools that can help students achieve their educational goals.

5. High School Diploma

The library can also help you achieve your High school diploma through their free career
online high school program. There are only a limited number of scholarships available
but this is an amazing resource to get you back on track to finding a career you love.
