Summertime is here and kids everywhere are looking forward to an abundance of fun. However, every time summer rolls around the possibility of experience a major heat wave  can ruin plans. Experts advise to stay indoors, cool off, and take much needed breaks if outdoors and stay safe.

This can definitely put a speed bump on your summer plans. However there are plenty of things you can do with your kids to keep them safe from the heat and still able to enjoy their much-needed summer vacation.

How To Stay Cool

Here are some of my favorite ways to stay cool during those exhausting hot days:

1. Pool time and beach time! Yes! Going to the pool, beach, splash pads and waterparks can be super refreshing and keeps the kids busy. If there are no pools in your community or beaches nearby.  You can always splurge on a membership to join your local YMCA pool or other private pools. If not, a regular inflatable pool can still be fun and keep everyone cool.

2. Make it a movie day. Movie theaters tend to stay cold and during the summer many reduce their admission to get everyone to go watch a movie. Check out matinee times or summer deals, like Cinemark’s Movie Club $1.50 kid movies during the summer.

3. Keep learning! I know that might sound boring but keeping cool inside a children’s museum or your local library can be a lot of fun. Explore new local educational places and enjoy the A/C. Local libraries offer story time for kids and crafts they can enjoy.

4. Have they tried ice-skating? If you have an ice-skating rink close by, try it out. Nothing cooler than skating on top of a huge block of ice. This is perfect for kids of all ages. Have their friends tag along too!

5. Make it fun at home with water balloons, water guns and ice painting. Make popsicles, have water stations ready, have a car wash day.

Stay Safe and Have Fun

Remember that these summer heat waves can truly cause some kids to have symptoms of heat stroke. Be aware of them and know what to do in case someone you know feels them.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay safe and have fun!
