Welcome to our Ventura County “Mom to Know” series!

We are featuring moms right here in our local community to highlight the wonderful things they are doing as mothers, business owners, community members, and friends. If you’d like to nominate someone to be featured in our Moms to Know series, contact us at [email protected].  Each featured mom will be entered to win a single session with Pocket Chefs ($179 value).  We are honored to feature our 1st “Mom to Know”!

Meet Alyssa

  1. How many kids do you have? And tell us a little about your family.

I have 2 kids, 2.5 year old son and 15 month old daughter. Yes, I had “two under two”. Let’s not forget an awesome husband who inspires me and makes me laugh every day.

  1. What do you do for a living?

I have a real estate business.

3. What do you love about raising a family in Ventura County?

We have an incredibly supportive and diverse community. There are so many family oriented activities, amazing churches, and groups/programs for kids. There is just so much opportunity.

  1. What are your favorite local things to do/places to go?

I love to eat and we have some amazing spots. A couple of favorites are Fluid State for pizza and Taqueria Tepatitlan for the best tacos on the ave. RIP Ferraros (if you know you know)… Lovewell Tea & Coffee is my favorite coffee shop. McConnels for Ice Cream. I love going to our harbors and local events like Boots & Brews, Surf Rodeo… I love our wineries and escaping to Ojai a lot too, Topa Mountain Winery is my fav.

  1. Is there a hidden gem in Ventura County you love?

When you have lived here a long time, it’s hard to know what is still hidden. I am always featuring local spots though on my Instagram.

  1. What do you do to reset and recharge?

Go for a walk by the water, do a really good work out when I don’t feel rushed like after my kids are in bed, drink a glass of wine.

  1. How do you balance work and family life?

Time blocking! I try to map out my plan for the week, I don’t believe in a rigid schedule but I believe in making reasonable goals, stacking and batching out work tasks. I prioritize and have a flexible schedule. By blocking out time for certain things, I am able to accomplish more and have more time for my family. I sprinkle it in wherever I can and don’t judge a real estate agent here but I try to be off on Sundays. It doesn’t always work perfectly but I try because they are my reason for anything I do.

  1. What piece of advice would you give mothers right now?

There is a lot of noise out there… shut it off and just be with your kids!
