Welcome to our Ventura County “Mom to Know” series!

We are featuring moms right here in our local community to highlight the wonderful things they are doing as mothers, business owners, community members, and friends. If you would like to nominate someone to be featured in our Moms to Know series, contact us at [email protected].  Each featured mom will be entered to win a single session with Pocket Chefs ($179 value).  We are honored to feature our 2nd “Mom to Know” in Ventura County!

Meet Tara

1. How many kids do you have? Tell us a little about your family.

I’m Tara Romero, mom of 3 kiddos (ages 13, 9, and 6).  We’re a normal-ish homeschool family with a strong love for Legos and Chick-Fil-A nuggets.

2. What do you do for a living?

I help overwhelmed women struggling to lose weight get unstuck by teaching them how to honor their bodies through fitness and nutrition.  I’m a Certified Personal Trainer and Health Coach. (Follow Tara’s Facebook)

3. What do you love about raising a family in Ventura County?

I love the slower pace of Ventura County compared to L.A.  There’s so many places to hike and the beaches are beautiful.

4. What are your favorite local things to do/places to go?

We love to go pedal boating at Harbor Village as a family and then grab some fish tacos at Baja Bay Surf & Taco.

5. Is there a hidden gem in Ventura County you love?

I recently discovered The Alley in Moorpark.  It’s a great hangout place with a handful of restaurants and the cutest craft boutique.  Totally perfect for moms night out or date night.

6. What do you do to reset and recharge?

I’m really big on self care, so I do lots of things to recharge.  Sometimes, it’s sipping on tea, binge watching a show, taking a salt bath, buying myself a new lipstick, singing…whatever I think will bring me joy that day.  Lately, I’ve been going on solo bicycle rides on my beach cruiser and walks.

7. How do you balance work and family life?

I don’t think that true balance is attainable, so I just do my best to take things day by day and prioritize accordingly.  Our bodies are always asymmetrical.  One brow arches higher than the other.  One muscle is weaker or stronger than the other.  Life is always perfectly imperfect, yet we carry on.

8.  How are you impacting your community or family?

I’m proud to be impacting lives by helping women transform their overall health.  When a woman shows up for herself, she can create immense change.  When she is fit mentally and physically, her entire community benefits.  She can create a legacy of health for generations to come.  It’s a real honor to be a small part of that.  It’s also a wonderful feeling to know that I am settling a good example to my children.

9. What piece of advice would you give mothers right now?

Do what works best for you and your family.  Be honest, be a little weird, and stand for your convictions.

Cascia Smith
Cascia was born and raised in the Arizona heat. While receiving her Pre-Med degree at HIU in California, a blonde, surfing, skateboarding boy stole her heart. In 2004, she married Chuck and had many adventures living in Arizona, California and Colorado. They now call Simi Valley home and have three wild and curious children - Becker (10), Bodie (7) and Lyla (6). She has been blessed to be a teacher, summer camp staff/program director, SAHM and now the owner of Ventura County Mom Collective. Playing guitar, writing songs, and reading any and every parenting book helps keep her sane and happy! A good cup of coffee or a bubbly La Croix can usually be found in her hand! She tries to live by the motto "I'd rather recover from failure than live with regret.
