Summertime is here and I know most of us are hoping we get to add more great books to our summer reading list. Ah, to read outdoors while the waves crash on the shore, to read while the kids enjoy splashing in the pool, or to read while on vacation without a worry in the world.
Summer Reading
Reading makes for one hell of a good escape, more so when the pages are filled with sultry and fun lines that make a book extra interesting. Nothing like some good drama, witty quotes and a lot of chemistry between good looking characters. I call these my “Hot Mom Summer Reads”, usually rom-com stories that are fun, sexy, swoon-worthy and allow you to enjoy reading without having to read hundreds of pages to get to the end.
Miss Reading
My reading journey had taken a halt after having kids. Between nursing, lack of sleep and laundry piling up…reading a book was the last thing on my to-do list. That long lost romance with reading came back as audiobooks became an acceptable way to “read” and colorful covers hit Reese’s Book Club (https://reesesbookclub.com/) and made the list of trending bookstagram accounts. Booktok, Instagram book reels and audibles best sellers made me come back to a world I had been missing.
Hot Mom Summer Reads
There are many amazing genres out there but a Hot Mom Summer Read brings a bit of spice, entertainment and sun-kissed romance to a reader who needs to unwind. Sure, you could read some mystery; take on the next crime scene and cold case but that summer feeling is what makes a Hot Mom Read a lighthearted pleasure. Nothing like two people finding themselves through quirky scenarios where the heat rises along with their intentions.
Whether it is a meet-cute, an enemies-to-lovers story or simply a quick fling. These are not over the top reads; these are light pages you can breeze through while sipping on a mocktail while the kids ask for snacks in the background haha.
Kidding, give them snacks first and then keep reading girl!
If you are here for Hot Mom book ideas perfect to take on the summer, I am sharing 5 of my favorite summer fun reads. I know some people have their favorite beach reads and many don’t quite get into the fictional romance and all its out-of-this- world possibilities, but I am here for it. Why not? We all need a little extra over-the-top romance, the banter between possible lovers and the drama that goes along with it.
Get your favorite swimsuit on, grab a drinky-drink, some chips and guac, sunscreen and enjoy the pages to come.
The List
“Funny Story” by Emily Henry-
Henry is known as the queen of Rom-Coms and after reading different
books written by her, yes, I agree. Funny Story brings on the opposites attract story line
with fake dating, drama with exes and more. Witty dialogue and chemistry between our
main characters Miles and Daphne make this a Hot Mom Summer Read for me. They
couple up to make their exes jealous and of course this takes on a path of its own
bringing on all the down to earth dialogue between them. Picking up the pieces after a
break up is tough but we find ourselves through it all again and it’s a great pleasure to
see healing after ending a relationship.
“Just For the Summer” by Abby Jimenez
Whether you decided to give this one a try through audio or a paperback,
just jump into it and let it take you along for the ride. This novel was everything a fun
summer read should be about. There is drama, heartfelt moments, triggers, sexy banter,
humor… Emma and Justin connect in such a different way from other books. Emma and
Justin are cursed, there are others “Luck Charm”, everyone they date goes on to find
their soulmate the second they break up. How can they work this to their advantage?
They both bring along their harsh realities into the story while falling for each other.
“The Unhoneymooners” by Christina Lauren
After Olive’s sister’s wedding ends in chaos, with everyone dealing with
food poisoning and her own divorce to come, Olive and her “sworn enemy” Ethan end
up in Hawaii. Her sister’s paid honeymoon is passed along to be taken advantage of.
They both take on the deal and spend the days avoiding each other until Olive’s new
boss comes to the picture. This enemies-to-lovers story brings all the feels about how
your imperfections can be loved and how anything can happen while on a trip to Hawaii.
Hilarious, sarcastic, witty, complicated, heartfelt…leaves you wanting your own trip the
Maui.
“The Honeymoon Crashers” by Christina Lauren
Part 2 of Olive and Ethan’s story, a follow up to “The Unhoneymooners”
(mentioned above). This time, Ami (Olive’s sister) becomes the wedding planner. While
planning a wedding, she meets Brody who lives in Maui and is full of calm vibes and go
with the flow attitude. Destination wedding, means playful and swoon-worthy
scenarios. Ami and Brody are different yet perfect for each other and they both deserve
a happy ending, right? This book is fun, cheesy, a cute rom-com to lighten up your
summer days.
“It Happened One Summer” by Tessa Bailey
After getting into serious trouble, Piper Bellinger is sent to take care of her dad’s
Dive Bar in Washington. The socialite will have to forget about Beverly Hills and tackle
life away from the glamor. She meets sea Captain Brendan, who is a total opposite and
thinks she will not last long tackling her new endeavor. This “It Girl” is cut-off and the
undeniable attraction between her and Brendan will keep her busy thinking whether she stays or goes. Steamy, good romantic dialogue, playful, sassy…perfect summertime
page turner.
Whether you choose to give these a try, have read them before or romcoms are simply not
your thing, I hope this summer brings you all the rest and plenty of time to do the things.
