Free Kids Workshops Fun

Did you know Home Depot offers free and fun Kids Workshops? It’s true! Every first Saturday of the month from 9am to 12pm, Home Depot stores across the country offer these hands-on workshops. Reservations are encouraged but they will have kits available while supplies last.

According to the Home Depot website, “Kids Workshops provide a mix of skill-building, creativity and safety for future DIYers.”

Each month, each participating kid gets to construct a new project. They get to keep their project and get other free goodies too!

Each free workshop kit includes:

1) Detailed instructions for the project
2) All the materials needed to construct the project
3) Certificate of Achievement
4) A Commemorative Pin

We have done a couple of the workshops and they have all been fun! My little one loved getting a Home Depot (kid-size) apron too!

Please note, they do not always have aprons available. We got one the first time we went and she keeps bringing it back. Once she’s done with the project, she adds the new pin to her apron. Such a confidence booster!

Fun Projects

The last workshop we did was the Poolside Birdhouse. It was a pretty easy and creative project. Bigger kids can do it by themselves while little ones usually get help from adults. Home Depot provides all the tools needed for the project, such as hammers and paint. You’re also welcome to bring your own tools.

My little one loved picking colors and painting the little bird house. What a perfect arts and crafts project! At home, she added glitter and flower stickers to further customize it.

Workshop Tips

The workshop was held outside the store in the parking area. There was a tent providing some shade but not enough for everyone. As the weather gets warmer, bring hats and wear sunscreen. Our family loves doing these workshops whenever we can. Most of the time, it has been a “Daddy-and-me” activity while Mama sleeps-in.

But sometimes Mama likes to go too and check out the Home Depot Nursery while they do the workshop. Or go to Target. A win-win for all!
