Remember those quizzes we used to take in Teen Magazine or YM? The ones that it became really apparent “what kind of flirt” you are or “which Babysitter’s Club member” you are… when you started piling up a bunch of a’s or b’s or c’s? I suppose Buzzfeed took some of that and ruined the predictability, but here we go! Let’s find out what kind of holiday entertainer you are!
What Kind of a Holiday Entertainer Are You?
Let’s plan your ideal holiday hosting situation based on your strengths and preferences! Keep track of your answers below! Then find out what type of holiday entertainer you are.
When it comes to friends…
a) I have friends everywhere! Mom friends, work friends, college friends, hobby friends.. and I love to keep up with them all and intermingle them when I can!
b) Friends? Well, I have two besties.. I barely have time to see them but our group text is pretty legit when my hands aren’t totally full.
c) I tend to be surrounded by whichever group I spend the most time with for the project or situation at hand… soccer mom friends, work friends, volunteer friends.
d) My partner and I have a few couple friends that join us for happy hours, dinners and events.
In my free time I…
a) get together with more people! Coffee dates, dinners, outings! I’m always up for whatever with whoever?
b) something low key! Read, catch up on Netflix, relax!
c) decorate, bake, go for a hike, something active!
d) invite our neighbors over to watch the game or have drinks.
When I’m at someone else’s party I…
a) talk to any and everyone, suggest karaoke, meet more friends.
b) stick to one corner where I talk to the two people I actually know all night.
c) ask the hosts how I can help, then get to helping and making everyone feel comfortable.
d) stick close to my partner and mingle with other couples we know.
The best part about a party is…
a) all the people, all the activity!
b) having the time to connect with people I love.
c) the excitement of planning it!
d) the food… and enjoying it with friends.
I can’t go to a party without…
a) a brand new dress! I love a reason to get dressed up!
b) my best friend, or closest mom friend! I need my side kick to survive these things.
c) contributing my famous baked brie or a signature cocktail.. and of course a cute hostess gift!
d) my partner.. this is as close to date night as we get!
If I know people are coming to my place I make sure…
a) there are drinks in the fridge to offer.
b) things look fairly presentable.
c) my house has the latest holiday decor up, nice smelling candles are lit, the whole deal.
d) there are snacks and music or background noise from a game.
If you got mostly…
A: You are the life of the party.
The people, the dressing up, the games, music, dancing… the bigger the party the better. You aren’t afraid to meet new people, and you mingle with everyone and bring them together!
This year you should plan your own! Invite all the friends you collect wherever you go. Have a big buffet that promotes mingling and maybe even plan a few party games to get people comfortable and introduced to each other. Giving everyone a celebrity name tag on their back when they arrive, then explain that they need to ask other people questions to eventually guess “who” they are! It can be a great way to get people talking and sharing stories!
After that, (and your favorite drinks) others may be almost as game as you are for a round of karaoke or a lip sync battle! Or plan a funny White Elephant gift exchange or some other collaborative game to make it festive and fun!
B: You are a great friend, but you are busy so you keep a focused friend group!
You never let your besties down, but honestly you barely have time even for them! What you need is a holiday girls night where you come together outside the group text for some in-person laughs and fun. If you are feeling adventurous, invite that other woman you have been chatting with when you see her around (work, school, soccer). You never know who might turn into your new BFF!
Put together some festive holiday drinks or a hot cocoa bar, some snacks and either an easy activity (think painting pre-cut ornaments or giving each other holiday pedicures) or put on a favorite holiday movie (one you don’t have to pay too much attention to) and take the time to catch up in person!
C: You are the entertainer, the organizer, the decorator.
Not only do you love to enjoy all the reasons for the seasons, you love to give back to people and make them happy! This year, open your home to plan a beautiful bash that will leave the guests with more than just wonderful memories when they leave!
I love doing a festive cookie exchange where we bake cookies, taste test them (there are obviously prizes! Best looking, best tasting and best overall – or sometimes a wildcard prize), and everyone leaves with an assortment to enjoy or re-gift!
You could also host a fudge making party where everyone leaves with beautifully wrapped fudge for neighbor or work gifting. If baking isn’t your thing you could host a wrapping party where everyone brings gifts and you provide gorgeous wrapping options so everyone enjoys the wrapping (add your famous baked brie, some mulled wine, a dessert bar…) with fabulous results (rather than hastily wrapping to exhaustion on Christmas Eve).
Include kids or don’t, but don’t forget the festive decor and the delicious scented candles!
D: You have some great friends.. and it’s nice to enjoy them with your partner!
A built-in double date is totally your thing, so couple-friends are your jam! No one is left out, and oftentimes kids can be mixed in. This year, invite the neighbors or your best couple friends for a low key but super fun dinner (maybe do a Friendsgiving, with all the couples bringing their favorite leftovers to share, or maybe a New Year’s night in: dress up and watch the ball drop with a small group).
If you hang with neighbors, plan a progressive dinner where each couple hosts a different course at their home. You walk from house to house for drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert! Everyone gets to share in hosting, and the change of scenery makes it fun!
Alternatively, team up with another couple or a few couples to do something service oriented! Dress up in ugly sweaters and volunteer at the soup kitchen and have a celebratory dinner out afterwards; or get together to collect gifts, wrap them festively and deliver to a family in need. Spending time being grateful and giving with your partner and best pals makes everything so much sweeter.
Everyone is a Holiday Entertainer!
Just choose what makes you happiest and least stressed, from the setting to your guests!
No matter what kind of a holiday entertainer you are, make a plan to make this holiday season special with your closest friends, whether that guest list is 2 or 100!
Festive drinks and food can go a long way to making a really simple occasion feel incredibly special. Adding an element of giving or making your friends lives easier and more enjoyable by making holiday tasks a party are both ways to give greater meaning to just a party, but just connecting is reason enough.
