There is nothing like getting out in the fresh air and exploring our community.  Now that the weather is just right for exploring outdoors, here are 10 hikes that will make you glad you dusted off those hiking shoes and grabbed your family or a friend to explore Ventura County. All the following hikes can be found on All Trails App to check for difficulty and maps. 

Let’s Hit A Trail

Tapo Canyon Tar Pit Loop 

What!! A Tar Pit!! Yes that’s right.  Settled in Simi Valley this hike will definitely impress the kids and make for a great memory.  The loop is 5.4 miles and is rated moderate because there are some steep hill areas. 

TIP – The last portion is a city street, many suggest turning around and hiking back to avoid walking on busy streets.

Corriganville Park Loop Trail 

Check out this unique trail that is not only beautiful, but also historic.  This park was once the Corriganville Movie Ranch and filming site for over 3,500 movies, TV programs and commercials.  The loop is 1.7 miles and ranked easy.  It is a level ground hike making it very kid friendly.

 TIP – There are all sorts of fun rocks for kids to climb on.

San Buenaventura Beach Trail

It doesn’t get much better than an easy hike along the beach!  The trail is 2 miles and ranked as an easy hike.  It is also know as a wonderful place to bird watch.

 TIP – Apparently there is a great taco stand half-way through this hike!

Hill Canyon Trail 

Your kids will enjoy this easy 3.6 mile hike.  The trail is well marked and there is even a small stream to play in.

Tip – A small stream can be found during the rainy season.

Angel Vista (Rosewood Trail)

A 3.1 mile trail labeled as moderate might be a great challenge for those who are used to hitting the hiking trail.  Dogs are allowed on the trail and you can see beautiful wildflowers.

Tip – not a ton of shade

Lynnmere Trail Loop

A 3.5 mile trail near Thousands Oak which is great for walking, running, hiking and nature trips.  Rolling hills and great views will make this a very enjoyable hike.

Wendy Trail

Looking for an easier trail that is good for all skill levels, than this is a great one! See beautiful flowers and also a deer here and there has been seen.

Rose Valley Falls

Marked as an easy trail at  1.1 mile out and back trail located near Ojai, California. It  features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels.

Tip – slippery near waterfall, wear good hiking shoes

Ventura Botanical Garden Trail

This hike is known for beautiful views and an easy hike that is just 2 miles long. The Ventura Botanical Gardens has 109 acres and over 8,000 plants on the grounds.

Tip – Fridays are fee days (check to make sure this is still valid)

Pratt Trail

A difficult and longer hike, but if you have the day and ability this is a wonderful adventure. With views of Anacapa and Santa Cruz in the distant on clear days and beautiful views, especially at sunset.

Tip – beginning is well shaded, but hardly any towards the end
